Onsite: Batch 5 of Maintenance Planning and Scheduling Excellence

Batch 5 of Maintenance Planning and Scheduling Excellence: Conducted for LRMC: A Step Towards Operational Brilliance

December 9-11, 2024 | Organized by Erudite Training & Consulting | Trainer: Philip Perez

Introduction: Uplifting Maintenance Standards at LRMC

Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) continues to demonstrate its unwavering commitment to operational excellence. From December 9 to 12, 2024, ERS OPC successfully conducted Batch 5 of its Maintenance Planning and Scheduling Excellence training program with seasoned industry expert Philip Perez as the lead trainer.

The program focused on equipping LRMCโ€™s maintenance and engineering teams with modern tools, techniques, and strategies to optimize maintenance efficiency, reduce downtime, and increase system reliability. The training also aligns with LRMCโ€™s broader goal of ensuring uninterrupted, safe, and timely transit services for commuters.

Key Objectives of the Training

The Maintenance Planning and Scheduling Excellence training aims to develop the technical, analytical, and operational skills of LRMCโ€™s maintenance personnel. By adopting globally recognized practices, LRMC ensures the continuous improvement of its Light Rail Transit (LRT) systemโ€™s reliability and safety.

The key objectives of the training included:

  • Building Core Competencies in Maintenance Planning and Scheduling: Providing participants with a robust framework to plan, organize, and execute maintenance activities.
  • Enhancing Work Efficiency and Resource Utilization: Ensuring the optimal use of manpower, materials, and maintenance windows.
  • Reducing System Downtime: Minimizing the time required for maintenance activities to avoid disruptions to commuter services.
  • Integrating Key Performance Metrics (KPIs): Using data-driven metrics to measure performance and improve decision-making processes.

Comprehensive Curriculum for Holistic Development

Led by trainer Philip Perez, the program featured a comprehensive curriculum tailored to the unique demands of the railway industry. The training spanned four days and was divided into interactive modules, hands-on workshops, and real-world application exercises.

1. Fundamentals of Maintenance Planning and Scheduling

Participants explored the core principles of maintenance management, emphasizing proactive planning. The module highlighted best practices for maintenance task identification, priority setting, and the development of maintenance workflows.

2. Work Identification and Prioritization

This module taught participants how to recognize potential maintenance needs before they escalate into larger issues. By prioritizing tasks based on risk and urgency, LRMC aims to improve system availability and minimize commuter disruption.

3. Resource Allocation and Workforce Management

One of the key challenges in maintenance is resource allocation. This module addressed the effective use of manpower, materials, tools, and equipment. By learning how to assign resources efficiently, LRMC aims to maximize productivity and reduce waste.

4. Scheduling Optimization Techniques

Participants were introduced to advanced scheduling strategies to ensure that maintenance tasks are carried out during optimal periods, reducing system downtime. This module emphasized the importance of balancing maintenance schedules with operational demands.

5. Performance Measurement Using Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

The final component of the training focused on monitoring and evaluating maintenance performance. By utilizing KPIs such as Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) and Mean Time to Repair (MTTR), participants learned to track maintenance efficiency and identify areas for continuous improvement.

Hands-on Activities and Practical Learning

To reinforce theoretical knowledge, the training emphasized interactive learning and practical exercises. Participants were divided into teams to collaborate on case studies, analyze maintenance challenges, and develop customized maintenance schedules. The collaborative environment fostered teamwork, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

The training also featured role-play scenarios in which participants practiced troubleshooting and rapid response techniques. This hands-on approach helped them grasp the complexities of real-world maintenance issues.

Commitment to Continuous Improvement

The completion of the training marks a significant milestone for LRMC’s continuous improvement initiatives. With four successful batches before it, LRMC aims to expand training opportunities for more employees, ensuring that each member of the maintenance team has the knowledge, tools, and confidence to excel in their role.

This training series, powered by Erudite Training & Consulting, reflects LRMC’s firm belief that people are the company’s greatest asset. By prioritizing the growth and development of its workforce, LRMC strengthens its ability to provide world-class commuter services.
